Irréversible Inc. Closes Pre-Seed Round to Advance Ultra-Low-Power AI Chips for Edge and Autonomous Systems
Irréversible has closed a pre-seed financing round led by Quantacet to accelerate product development and expand its core engineering team.
Irréversible Inc., a Canadian semiconductor company developing next-generation AI computing systems for ultra-low-power environments, announced today that it has closed its pre-seed financing round. The round was led by Quantacet, with participation from Frostbite Capital, Cycle Momentum, Tofino Capital, UCeed Investment Funds, Colin Harris, Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), and Capital Labs. The funding will be used to accelerate product development and expand the company’s core engineering team.
As AI capabilities move beyond data centers and into real-world environments, many emerging applications, such as drones, robotics, and remote sensing, face strict limits on power, size, and connectivity. In these edge settings, traditional digital computing often requires power budgets that are impractical or unavailable, constraining on-device intelligence and autonomy.
Irréversible is building specialized chips (and the supporting software stack) designed to enable on-device intelligence in power-constrained environments. This power-first architecture targets orders-of-magnitude improvements in energy efficiency, enabling advanced AI workloads within the tight power budgets required for edge and autonomous systems.
Since its founding, Irréversible has developed its initial architecture, validated key workloads with early partners, and demonstrated substantial power-efficiency gains relative to conventional approaches. The company is currently advancing multiple prototype chips and expanding its software platform to help partners deploy ultra-low-power AI in real-world applications.
“Most computing architectures today assume abundant power, an assumption that doesn’t hold for many of the most compelling edge and autonomous applications,” said Andrew Fursman, co-founder and Chair of the Board at Irréversible. “We believe a new class of ultra-efficient intelligence hardware is both possible and necessary for the next wave of autonomy. Our technology is designed to bring robust, on-device decision making to systems like drones and remote sensors within extremely tight power budgets.”
“Irreversible’s power efficiency-first approach also means they don’t pigeon-hole themselves with a single hardware approach or a single intelligence model, making them quickly adaptable to the ever evolving AI market”, said Martin Laforest, Partner at Quantacet. "Irreversible's approach has been inspired by advances in quantum technologies and it was a unique opportunity for us to invest in a team of seasoned entrepreneurs."
